WHO approves self-abortion drug

NEW YORK, June 2 (C-FAM)

By Susan Yoshihara, Ph.D.

By authorizing the use of a single drug, the World Health Organization has simultaneously raised hopes for saving thousands of mothers’ lives and raised fears that the drug will also be used to kill perhaps millions of unborn children. Misoprostol is used to help stop bleeding during delivery, the main cause of maternal deaths, but it can also be used to induce at-home abortions, which are very dangerous, particularly in rural areas that lack primary or emergency medical care.

The fears are grounded in the fact that WHO approved use of the drug by unskilled personnel and that both WHO and Gynuity Health Projects, the organization which sought the drug’s approval, advocate the use of misoprostol for abortion outside the hospital setting.

WHO says its “work over the past three decades has contributed significantly to the emergence and wide acceptance of the current recommended regime” of medical abortion, according to one of its recent reports. WHO has trained midwives throughout the developing world to perform abortions in order to eliminate the need for physicians, the report says. In Vietnam alone, the trials included 1,734 women, and its misoprostol-induced abortions are conduced up to 63 days, WHO says.

Gynuity is working to mainstream the use of misoprostol for self-induced abortions. According to a 2009 Gynuity report, the organization works at the community level to cast self-induced abortion in a positive light, and to “oppose legislation introduced at the state or federal level that furthers the concept of fetal personhood.” …

God is not an abortionist

It’s really strange, this thing that I often hear coming from atheist feminist as they try to explain their reasons for advocating for abortion.

They tell me that it’s not a baby, which it clearly is. Or that they don’t believe it’s a baby until it is born. Technically it is a fetus until the moment of birth but they use the term fetus to mean “less than” a baby, which it is not. Fetus is simply a medical term to describe an unborn baby. Then there is the whole, it’s not a person until it is born argument, which it clearly is. By nature of it being human it is a person. It’s a simple equation. Human equals person and person equals human.

Those arguments among others vary from being odd to downright silly. But, the one that makes me scratch my head and wonder if we have all gone down the rabbit hole with Alice to visit the mad hatter is, “It’s o.k. To kill the unborn because God is an abortionist Himself.” I have heard that one many times in various forms. This argument, as you can imagine, is ripe with problems. The most glaring one being that they don’t believe in Him by nature of the fact that they are atheist but they use Him to try to argue their points. No!

To get to the bottom of the ridiculousness of this argument we have to look at what God says about the unborn….

May 25, 2011/Americans United for Life

A 2011 Gallup poll released this week caused quite a media stir. For the first time in recent years, Americans identifying themselves as “pro-choice” slightly outnumbered those who consider themselves pro-life. But a closer reading of the data reveals why the abortion lobby’s spin of the data is actually misinformation.

The report concluded, “Majorities of Americans indicate some reluctance about abortion on both moral and legal grounds.” In fact, the report indicated broad support for restricted abortion.

Key findings included facts such as:

51% of Americans believe abortion is morally wrong while only 39% believe it is morally acceptable.
60% of political Independents are evenly divided on the moral correctness of abortion, but tilt “fairly strongly toward restrictive abortion laws.” In fact, 60% of Independents believe abortion should be legal in “few or no circumstances.”
61% of all Americans believe that abortion should be legal in “only a few circumstances or no circumstances” while only 37% want abortion legal “in all or most circumstances.”

Americans United for Life President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest observed that this study debunked a huge myth promulgated by the abortion industry.

“The American people support regulations and common sense checks and balances to protect women and girls’ lives, and to respect the life in the womb,” noted Dr. Yoest. “With 61 percent of the American people hoping for life affirming policy, AUL looks forward to partnering with them.”

AUSTIN, Texas, May 17, 2011/Christian Newswire/

MTV has banned a media campaign of life-affirming, call-for-help commercials produced by Heroic Media which were scheduled to run on the network during May 2011.

MTV notified the press of their decision to pull the call-for-help commercials on May 5th, but did not inform Heroic Media until the following afternoon.

An MTV sales representative who notified Heroic Media’s advertising agency of the decision indicated that MTV President, Stephen Friedman, made the decision.

According to the sales representative, MTV, “was in the works with doing a partnership with Planned Parenthood and different opportunities for PSA’s when he decided that he did not want to run Heroic Media on MTV.”

Last month, MTV partnered with Planned Parenthood on a promotion called “Get Yourself Tested,” which was promoted on both MTV and Planned Parenthood’s websites.

Planned Parenthood reported performing 332,278 abortions in the United States in 2009. On their website, MTV has listed Planned Parenthood as an adoption referral resource. Planned Parenthood made 977 adoption referrals in 2009.

The newly ‘banned’ commercial, which has been running on MTV since May of 2010 is called “We Can Help” and features a young woman struggling with an unexpected pregnancy. The script follows:

Young Woman: I’m pregnant.
Adult Woman: It happens.
Young Woman: I’m afraid.
Adult Woman: That’s normal.
Young Woman: I’m worried, My boyfriend’s scared, my parents are mad.
Adult Woman: Get a grip people. You’re not alone. We can help.

Jeannie Kedas, Senior Vice President MTV Networks, issued the following official statement to Heroic Media seven days after giving it to the press, “Upon further review, it was hard for us to separate some of the recent tactics of the organization behind the ads themselves, so we have opted to not accept them for air at this time.”

Heroic Media has asked MTV to reconsider this decision and allow Heroic Media and other organizations to make women aware of hopeful alternatives to abortion.

Heroic Media is a faith-based non-profit that reduces abortion by creating a culture of life through television, billboard and internet advertising which connect women in crisis with life-affirming pregnancy centers. In communities where Heroic Media’s commercials have run consistently, abortions have dropped by as much as 20%.

Wichita, KS/May 18, 2011

A billboard-sized banner on the front of Operation Rescue’s National Headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, has been vandalized on the day after Gov. Sam Brownback signed into law sweeping clinic regulations supported by Operation Rescue that could close 2 of the 3 remaining abortion clinics in the state. The banner directed women to a pregnancy help center next door that offers free, practical help to pregnant women.

“Whenever there is significant progress on one of our projects, or when we are under attack by pro-abortion supporters in the news, we have incidents of vandalism, in spite of all our security precautions,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

“But in this case, the vandals are taking it out on pregnant women. Now that Wichita is abortion free, women need the services of our friends next door more than ever. We want to help direct women to those life-saving services,” said Newman. “It is a sorry state of affairs when pro-abortion people want to deny women access to free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and other practical assistance.”

This is the third time the banner has been vandalized, and now it must be replaced.

Operation Rescue’s offices are in a former abortion clinic that the group bought and closed in 2006. The building, which was left in dangerously poor condition by the abortion clinic, underwent a complete renovation and is now a place where OR works to stop abortion nationwide.

Operation Rescue is using the front of the building along busy Central Avenue to advertise free pregnancy testing and other services at A Better Choice, a pregnancy help center directly next door to Operation Rescue’s office.

Immediately after it went up in September, 2010, the banner began to work, and traffic into the pro-life center increased nearly 10%. Within the first two days, four women made decisions to keep their babies after seeing the banner and seeking help at A Better Choice. Dozens of women have received needed assistance over the past few months as a result of the advertising.

Operation Rescue is seeking donations to replace the banner.

“Our budget is tight in this struggling economy, but this banner has been so effective at saving lives, it would be wrong not to replace it,” said Newman. “We have faith that our dedicated supporters will come through, and that we can raise the replacement costs very soon.”
